cgc

here’s a recent comic book acquisition. it’s a copy of ’not brand echh’ #11 in cgc graded 9.6 nm+ condition. not brand echh was a statire comic on marvel’s and dc’s super hero’s, it ran 13 issues in the late 1960’s, this copy being from december 1969. since it wasn’t taking anything seriously, the collectors at the time didn’t take their condition seriously. so it is hard to find copies that are in high grade. not brand echh’s central super hero was “forbush man” a hero with no powers who wore red long johns. on this cover in the lower right side is a drawing of a german plane flying at king konk. the pilot is taken directly from the comedy show ‘laugh in’ which was ground breaking tv show in the late 60’s.
here’s what wikipedia say’s about the book’s name “The series title was a play on an advertising convention of the time, in which a competitor’s product was not referred to by name, but simply as “Brand X”; DC was sometimes playfully called “Brand Echh” in Marvel “Bullpen Bulletins” and letters pages, hence this comic was “Not Brand Echh.” The official title of the comic in its postal indicia was Brand Echh for its first four issues, and afterward Not Brand Echh, the cover title from the start.”

cgc grade

cgc, or Certified Guaranty Company is a comic book grading service independent from any comic book company. grades run from 1, being the worst, to 10, being the best. what they do is have three professional graders go through a comic and decided on what level of condition the book is in. the three conditions are then devided by three to come up with the final condition grade. the comic is then “slabed”, which is encased in a protection plastic case and sealed so it can’t be openned, hence preserving the grade.

ok, two of my favorite seasonal food products are now available…they have my approval. the pumpkin frosted mini wheats and the giant eagle brand sweet potato/pumpkin tortilla chips. i eat the hell out of these things, i buy multiples when i go to giant eagle. the mini wheats are incredible and the chips are subtle yet very distinct sweat potato and pumpkin taste. if anyone has a line on other good pumpkin products, let me know.

north coast nostalgia, best comic book store in cleveland…carol and johns are a close second. why i pick north coast is that beyond the fact they carry a huge amount of new comic books weekly, they also carry a good selection of high grade bronze and silver age comic books. these are two recent purchases, hulk #134 and man-thing #11. the hulk is a warehouse find, they have about ten of this copy, it was hard picking mine out because of the pristine shape they are in. the man-thing is almost perfect, both are CGC worthy. i decided before i went to store i was going to buy only one book, i did real good leaving with only two thanks to audrey, the amount to select from made it really hard not to leave with 12. north coast nostalgia is located at 5853 ridge rd in parma ohio. their Facebook page is HERE, check them out.

rock candy

*ok, highly recommend reading…“ROCK CANDY” magazine! rock candy is like how ‘kerrang’ used to be. they cover hard rock and metal from the 1970’s through early to mid 80’s….the good stuff, like…the iron maiden tour of 1984, UFO classic era by pete way, 7 pages of angel!, thin lizzy, judas priest, accept, scorpions, manpower, vintage humble pie, metallica the early years (when they ruled), triumph, budgie, and so on! it’s like a magazine to go along with my radio show, or my radio show is the soundtrack to the magazine. these issues are packed, no advertisements. the only place you can get rock candy is through the internet, i got exposed to them on Facebook and immediately got a subscription. so here you go.. ROCK CANDY MAGAZINE…….ROCK CANDY FACEBOOK PAGE.

*speaking of my radio show, for those of you who don’t know, my show is called “overrated” and i’m on every wednesday 11am to 12:30pm east coast time on WCSB 89.3 cleveland, or listen on line from anywhere at WCSB.ORG

whats been going on..

lets see…a ton of stuff has happened since my last entry…sorry about the lack of them, i’ll try and bring you up to speed, and i know i’ll miss a bunch of stuff but i’ll try and do my best…

*the acting out event went very good..my talk / presentation with Dr. Calabrese about vincent van gogh went over well.

*as mentioned in the previous update, some lady ran a light in lakewood ohio and t-boned me, totaled my car. i got a new one with the insurance money, her insurance money. i got a 2009 crown victoria, a federal car with cop suspension. it came from georgia so there is no rust, very clean white car. V-8 so it’s fast, 65,000 miles on it, tinted windows and there are still police flashers mounted in the rear window. i put a saxon sticker on it, my new wheels of steel.

*andrew wk kicked major ass

*a friend of mine was in town and we went to a bunch of gigs…venom inc., andrew wk, the get up kids, and the movie life, all were great.

*i accendently took a vetmedin, one of my dogs pills for his heart murmur when taking my morning meds. i went straight the emergency room where they held me for two hours. once they felt everything would be ok they let me go home. once home i took rommel out for a walk. no more than a half a block down the street my chest started to hurt bad, and i could barely breath. i collapsed on the side walk, the postman was near by and called 911. an ambulance came and got me and rommel. i told them what had happened, they said they were gonna take me back to the ER and for them to get it right. on the way one of the ambulance guys put rommel in my house. once at the ER, they gave me an ekg while my jaw began to hurt as well. they told me i was having a heart attack and sent me by ambulance, flashers and sirens blaring down to the university hospitals main campus. once there they began getting me ready to get a “stint”. they shoved a cable in through my wrist, up the arm and into the heart. once there they could seen it was something different, i had a “myocardial bridge” so no stint was needed. i was then taken to the intensive care unit for cardiac problems. i stayed there a few days, then sent to the cardiac ward where i spent a few more days. once my meds, a bata blocker, had things under control i was released. moral to the story, don’t take your dogs medicine.

*hell has officially frozen over, WNCX 98.5, cleveland’s classic rock, has played victim of changes.

My wounderful car took a hit yesterday while driving in Lakewood by a dingbat, she did quite a bit of damage. Her insurance company better give me a rental while they fix it. Her car was totaled, but my wheels of steel will live to fight another day….I hope

ABOUT
Acting Out! Fest is the brainchild of artist Derek Hess and his long-time business agent, Martin Geramita, along with Cleveland marketing / events guru, Angie Hetrick. Breaking down the stigmas that surround mental illness and addiction is a matter that’s especially important to Hess, whose struggles with bipolar disorder and substance abuse are not only well known, they’re integral subjects to his emotionally charged artwork.
Our core arts programming includes collaboration with local experts and nationally known celebrity mental health and addiction advocates, sharing their stories to help us deliver our message to a larger audience.
After Acting Out! 2016 we realized the greater need to connect the public and those in need with mental health and addiction resources. We strive to achieve this goal through programming partnerships with leading mental health and addiction organizations. Acting Out! 2017 is presented with generous support from The Centers for Families and Children, The Woodruff Foundation, Cleveland Clinic, Recovery Resources, Signature Health / Connections, Ohio Guidestone, Jakprints, and Gordon Square Arts District.

Acting Out! Fest was created to help break down the stigmas that surround mental illness and addiction by using arts programming that includes musical performances, talks, film, comedy, and visual art from local artists and nationally known celebrity mental health and addiction advocates. In addition to helping connect those in need of mental health and addiction assistance with available resources.
